Pedestrian dies in crash, driver charged with intoxication manslaughter

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Police have identified a pedestrian killed Monday, Oct. 4 after being struck by a vehicle just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of 82nd Street and Ave. U.

Police say a vehicle driven by Christina Hernandez, 50, was traveling eastbound on 82nd Street approaching the intersection at Ave. U.

Jacoby Springfield, 20, was legally crossing 82nd Street at the crosswalk, police reported.

The police report reveals Hernandez ran the red light and hit the pedestrian. The report also shows Hernandez drove away from the scene.

Her vehicle was stopped by LPD officers and the driver was arrested in the 2700 block of East Slaton Hwy.

Springfield was seriously injured and taken to University Medical Center where he later died.

Hernandez was not injured. Her passenger, who was also not identified, was moderately injured and was taken to University Medical Center for their injuries.

Hernandez was arrested and will be charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid, causing death.

The investigation is on-going.
