LP&L released the following statement on the outage:

(Update: 11:30am) Crews continue to work through storm related damage late morning.  From the original customer outage count of approximately 15,000 customers, crews have been able to restore power to all but 854 customers.  Crews will continue to work through these individual outages and expect to restore power to all remaining affected customers in the coming hours.  We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as crews work as quickly and safely as possible to repair all equipment damaged during last night’s storm.

(Original Press Release)  Lubbock Power & Light (LP&L) crews are working to restore service to the nearly 9,000 customers still without power after last night’s storm.  All available crews are in the field and have been since the storm passed through the city in the early morning hours, damaging equipment across the city and affecting service for over 15,000 customers.  Broken electrical poles and downed power lines due to fallen trees caused the majority of the damage to electrical infrastructure and crews are working to clear and re-energize lines at this hour.

LP&L expects to restore power to the vast majority of customers by mid-morning but will remain in the field working smaller outages throughout the day.  It is anticipated that full restoration of power will not be achieved until sometime later in the day.  Storm damage was seen equally across the city overnight causing crews to work continuously to repair damaged equipment.  With a storm of this magnitude, there will be some customers required to contact an electrician to fix damage to meter boxes on their homes or businesses before LP&L can safely restore power to their structure.  LP&L will work closely with those customers throughout the day in order to safely restore power.
