The Lubbock ISD Athletics Department announced today the hiring of Monique Garcia as the new head coach of the Lady Mustang softball program at Coronado High School.
Playing in their first ever UIL Baseball State Championship game, the Nazareth Swifts came up on the losing end 4-0 to D’Hanis in the 1A Title game in Round Rock.
The New Home Leopards battled back from a 3-0 deficit, but they came up short dropping a 4-3 2A State Semifinal game to Valley Mills in Round Rock, Wednesday afternoon.
Gomez has spent the last six seasons serving as an assistant baseball coach at Estacado High School, where he graduated in 1994. Coach Gomez will replace Josh Bobbitt who left to become an assistant coach at Melissa HS.
“We are excited to name Coach Ramon as the fourth baseball coach in Monterey High School history, " said Lubbock ISD Executive Director of Athletics Mike Meeks. “His leadership, integrity and dedication to the Plainsmen baseball program is top notch.”
As the Coronado head softball coach, Coach Picken led the Lady Mustangs to the 2018 regional final, 2019 regional quarterfinal (including a district championship), 2021 area final and bi-district round in 2022.
After 13 years at Idalou, nine as the Head Football Coach/AD, Jeff Lofton is leaving to be the Assistant Head Football Coach at the new West Plains High School in Canyon.
In their Area Round matchup of the playoffs against Midland Greenwood, the Matadors beat them 55-30 to add to their collection of gold balls this season.
The UIL has released the Semifinal matchups for the Girls State Basketball Tournament. Idalou (3A) and Sands (1A) will be heading to San Antonio to compete.
The No. 2 Trinity Christian Lions are heading back to TAPPS State Tournament as they beat Lubbock Christian 72-45 in the Regional Final Saturday evening at Lubbock Cooper.
